Depois de 3 semanas de desenvolvimento (ou tentativa de…) finalmente acabei a minha primeira funcionalidade aqui na PT. Demorou esse tempo todo porque foi preciso conhecer o sistema, saber como as coisas estão ligadas e todos esses pormenores.
Bem, isso foi ontem, hoje comecei a fazer outra funcionalidade e… já a acabei. :D Depois de se conhecer o sistema realmente as tudo gira de maneira diferente. Amanhã tenho mais duas para fazer, e se tudo correr bem também as faço com alguma facilidade.
Mas isso já é outra história. O importante é que estou bem feliz com este meu sucesso.
O que importa é a motivação.
After 3 weeks of development (or at least trying…) I finally finished my first functionality here at PT. It took all that time because I needed to know the system, know how things are connected and all those details.
Well, that was yesterday, today I started doing another functionality and…I’m finished. :D After knowing the system everything turns in a different fashion. Tomorrow I have two more functionalities to do, and if everything goes well I’ll do them with some ease.
But that’s another story. The important thing is that I’m happy with my success.
Motivation is the key.

FITU
Sábado à noite marcou o dia da nossa actuação no FITU (também conhecido pelo Festival Internacional de Tunas Universitárias). Apesar de o dia ter sido algo turbulento, jantamos e fomos para o Coliseu. O espírito começou a preparar-se e os instrumentos a afinarem-se. Ainda tivemos tempo para promover quem merecia e de estar com os amigos. Mas a altura de subir a palco não tardou e lá fomos nós.
O Coliseu estava bem recheado e já se ouvia o publico à espera de mais uma tuna. A nossa actuação, essa acho que foi fantástica. Diverti-me imenso e isso é de longe o mais importante. O publico também gostou e isso ainda é uma recompensa maior para quem toca. Fica aqui só um momento da noite que me deu particular gosto.

Jurado / Jury
Algo que ainda não tinha aqui partilhado foi o recente processo de selecção de jurados em que estive envolvido. Inicialmente há uns sorteios, escolhem-se 100 pessoas e o número vai diminuindo até chegar a 18. Esses 18 (nos quais eu já estive incluído) têm que ir ao tribunal de modo a serem inquiridos e a se escolher os jurados. Todos os 18 elementos foram inquiridos (deve aqui ficar assente que não haviam muitos licenciados e eu era o único engenheiro). A seguir a acusação pode excluir 2 pessoas e a defesa mais 2. Ora, quando chegou à altura da exclusão da defesa disseram o meu nome. Ao qual pensei: “Ei, eu até queria ser… enfim…”
Após isso seguiu-se o seguinte diálogo:
Juíza: “Então vai excluir o Sr. Engenheiro?”
Advogada de defesa: “É por isso mesmo…”
Não podia crer! Então aquela gaja! Anda aqui uma pessoa a formar-se para ser culto e gozar de bom senso e ela não me quer. Ah! Pois ela é da defesa. Isso já explica alguma coisa. Um engenheiro se calhar é letrado demais para o gosto dela, afinal é da defesa. Depois não admira que hajam criminosos a vaguear pela rua.
Vida estranha esta.
Something that I hadn’t shared here was the recent jury selection process that I was involved. Initially there are some drawings and 100 people are selected. The number keeps coming down until it gets to 18. Those 18 (I was one of them) have to go to court so they can be inquired and then selected. I should say there weren’t lots of people with higher education and I was the only engineer. After that, the prosecutor and the defense could exclude 2 people each. Well when the defense exclusion time arrived they called my name. I though: “Damn, I wanted to be one, oh well...”
After there was this little dialog:
Judge: “So you’re excluding the Engineer?”
Defense attorney: “That’s why…” (Because I’m an engineer…)
I couldn’t believe it! That broad! I guy works hard to be knowledgeable and have good sense and she doesn’t want me. Ah! Right she’s from defense. That should explain something. Maybe an engineer has to much knowledge for the likes of her, after all she’s defense. No wonder there are so many criminals on the streets.
Strange life this is.

Resultados / Aftermath
O trabalho aqui na PT está a ser bem interessante. Estou a fazer partes de um sistema bem grande o que me está a dar muita pica! Para a semana que vem é que vou ter de fazer muita coisa muito depressa porque até dia 14 de Novembro tem de estar tudo pronto.
Realmente quando o nosso trabalho é preciso e as pessoas mostram interesse no que fazemos é totalmente diferente.
É claro que por outro lado a minha semana passada deixou as suas marcas. O sono tem sido muito, mas felizmente ontem consegui dormir q.b. Espero que hoje também durma para regularizar esta situação. Vir trabalhar a morrer de sono e tomar vários cafés por dia não dá com nada.
Ah! E este Sábado é o FITU no Coliseu. Estou bem confiante e espero que a actuação corre às mil maravilhas! Hi hi :)
Work here at PT has been quite interesting. I’m doing parts of a big system and I’m really enjoying it! Next week I’ll have to do a lot of stuff rather quickly because until November 14th everything must be ready. It’s quite different when our job is needed and people show interest in what we do.
Of course that last week has left its scars. I’ve been rather sleepy. But fortunately yesterday I managed to sleep a lot. I hope that today I manage the same to balance the equation. Working without sleeping and taking lots of coffees is not a good idea.

Fim-de-semana breve / Breif weekend
Já faltou mais para sexta-feira... É o que tenho em mente neste momento. :) O fim de semana que tive foi, à falta de outras palavras, breve. Sábado, graças a uma noite prolongada, acordei às 16:30. Depois o resto do dia foi passado a tratar de algumas coisas para a caminhada de Domingo.
O Domingo começou bem cedo, eram 6 da manhã. Ai como custou! Fui depois com o meu irmão para a Peneda, ali bem no norte de Portugal, para um passeio no mato. Pegamos no equipamento e lá fomos. O passeio foi castiço, mas podia ser mais difícil. Parte do trajecto era estrada e isso tira muito a piada à actividade. No entanto, foi bem agradável. Como não podia deixar de ser já tenho fotos no “Lisboa’s Corner” (o link está ai de lado).
O dia de hoje é que está a ser o verdadeiro problema. Apesar de ter dormido 8:30h, o sono é substancial. Mas mesmo assim ainda me esforço para fazer o que tenho a fazer. Curioso foi o facto do meu monitor queimar :) o cheiro a queimado foi bem forte depois do aparelho insistir na reforma antecipada. Arranjaram-me um substituto mas esse tinha uma imagem tão boa que passados 5 minutos de trabalhar com ele comecei com uma agradável dor de cabeça. No entanto já tenho outro com que trabalhar e esse sim, funcional. :P
Friday is a little closer... At least that’s what’s on my mind right now. :) The weekend I had was, lacking other words, short. Saturday, thanks to a long night, I woke up at 16:30h. After that, the rest of the day was spent taking care of things for my Sunday trekking.
Sunday started really soon, it was 6 a.m. That was painful! I went with my brother to Peneda, that in the north of Portugal, to do some trekking in the wilderness.
We got our gear and there we went. The walk was fun, but it could be more difficult. Part of it was on road and that sure takes the fun away. Nevertheless it was really pleasant. As you might imagine I already got some photos in Lisboa’s Corner (the link is in the sidebar).
Today is the problem. Even though I slept 8:30h I’m still rather sleepy. But even so I’m still making an effort to do my job. Today had a funny event with my monitor burning up. :) The smell was rather strong after the device insisted on a anticipated retirement. They got me a substitute, but after working 5 minutes with it I started with a pleasant headache. But now the got me another one, and this one works :P

Pouco saudável / Unhealhty
E depois de estar um mês com fungos no pé ainda não estou recuperado. Nem as pomadas para matar os bixos estão a resultar. Como resultado tenho de realizar uma incursão ao médico para ver se resolvo isto. Por outro lado a falta de tempo para dormir deve estar a ajudar à minha difícil recuperação. Mas também esta semana não vai haver muito tempo para isso.
É caso para dizer que com isto tudo estou em baixo...:(

ih...
Após olhar para a minha agenda posso chegar à conclusão que ando com muita coisa para fazer. Tenho o trabalho, a família, a namorada, os amigos, o kendo, a tuna, o coro...a mais umas coisas. E nem sempre consigo fazer tudo que quero. A organização ainda é alguma mas tenho de ver se melhora. Sei que dá para ir fazendo tudo mas tenho que fazer um maior esforço para as coisas ficarem organizadas.
É que realmente já tenho muita gente a dizer que não tenho tempo para nada...será? Espero que sejam estas semanas que estejam a ser mais ocupadas, já que ando na transição de muita coisa. Mudei de trabalho, mudei o sítio e horas do kendo, estou na fase final do meu estágio e vida académica….bem muita coisa, espero mesmo que passe para ficar...com mais tempo....

And not always I can do what I want. I’m organized but I have to improve my organization. I know that I can do everything but I have to make an effort to better organize things.
The thing is that too many people are saying that I don’t have time for anything...is it like that? I hope that these weeks are just being abnormal, since I in a transition fase. I changed my job, the time and place where I practice Kendo, I’m finishing my internship and academic life…well a lot of things. I just hope that this passes so that I can have...more time...

Trabalho / Work
Estes dias na PT estão a ser bem activos. Há muito que fazer, e como o que vou ter de fazer está englobado num sistema monstruoso, há muito que estudar. Além disso o facto de ter horários flexíveis faz com que sejam 20h e ainda esteja aqui na empresa. Por outro lado depois posso chegar mais tarde ou sair mais cedo. He he
Espero que esta semana já entre no projecto porque estou mesmo ansioso para me tornar produtivo. Pode-se dizer que estou muito motivado para trabalhar. E como digo, a motivação é o que interessa.
Mas vou para casa porque quero jantar e logo ainda tenho ensaio da tuna

Besides that, the fact that I have flexible schedules makes that its 20h and I’m still here at the company. On the other hand, I can arrive later and get out sooner. He he

PT Inovação
Desde segunda que ando aqui na PT Inovação a ver se faço o que me pedem. É o meu novo trabalho e por aqui vou ficar no próximo ano. Os projectos parecem bem interessantes e o ambiente é muito bom. As pessoas são bem simpáticas e mais era difícil de se pedir. A remuneração não é das melhores, mas também estou ao pé de casa e comparando com o meu estágio os meus custos baixaram consideravelmente.
Outra coisa boa são os horários. São flexíveis e se fizer mais horas num dia posso fazer menos noutro. Resumindo, amanhã até bastava só trabalhar 3 horas :D
Mas tenho de me esmerar e como tal aqui vou eu para o trabalho.
Since Monday that I'm working at PT Inovacao, trying to do what they ask me. It's my new work and I'll be staying here for the next year. The projects seam very interesting and the environment is really good. People are really nice and it would be difficult to ask for more. The payment is not the best, but I'm near home. And comparing with my internship my spending was reduced considerably.
Another good thing is the schedules. Their flexible and if I make more hours in a day I can do less in another day. And, for example, tomorrow I would only need to work 3 hours. :D
But I have to shine and therefore I'm going back to work.

Renault World Series
Este fim de semana para além do torneio de kendo teve também a Renault World Series.
Fui ao Estoril com a família. Vimos algumas corridas e depois de estarmos satisfeitos voltamos para casa. Foi castiço ver umas corridas ao vivo, mas tenho a dizer que carros parecidos com os de Formula 1 fazem MUITO barulho. :)

This weekend besides the kendo tournament there was also the Renault World Series.
I went to Estoril with my family. We saw some races and after we were satisfied we came home. It was nice to see some live races, but I have to say that the cars (similar to formula 1 cars) make a LOT of noise. :)

Torneio de Kendo / Tendo tournament
E este Sábado foi o torneio de Kendo de Lisboa. Foi o meu 1º torneio e acho que estou bem contente. Apesar de não ter participado no torneio do Porto já estou em 34º no ranking nacional :D
Pena é que só os melhores 24 vão ao torneio nacional. Bem quando houver outro lá estarei. Fiquei mesmo motivado para melhorar o meu kendo. Aqui ficam umas fotos de um dos meus combates (tenho uma fita branca nas costas).
This Saturday was the Lisbon Kendo tournament. It was my 1st tournament and I think I'm really happy. Even though I didn't participate in the Porto tournament I'm in the 34th position in the national ranking :D
A pity that only the best 24 get to go to the national tournament. Well when there's another I'll be there. I really became motivated to improve my kendo. Here are some photos of one of my figths (I have a white ribbon on my back).
