Sozinho / Lonely

The week after Christmas, here at work, was strange. I was the only person from my department that was here. You can say I was quite alone. It would be one thing to work at home alone. But going to work and having no one there is quite gloomy. It might be considered positive as no one will distract you. But on the other hand you can’t let some steam out by telling a joke.

Well but that’s over. Get on with it!

Natal / Xmas

There i tis, Christmas has passed and it was a very good season. This year we went to Vila Real with my family and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

We went there on the 23rd and helped with the preparations. There was time to help, to talk, to eat, well, time for everything.

The xmas dinner came rather quickly and the codfish was quite good. The presents also came in a flash. You can say my parents really enjoyed what they got, as well as my brother.

On the following day we had lunch and returned to Porto, even though I would enjoy staying there longer. But work demands otherwise.

Well now New Year’s upon us and I have to see what I’m going to do. Meanwhile I have a lot of work to do therefore I can’t write all that I wanted.

Oh! I really enjoyed the drawing my cousin Sónia made of me. Studying architecture has it’s advantages.

Merry Christmas for all and good holyday season!

Wish list

Having in mind this Xmas season I remembered to update something that I tried once and that I should keep updated. Google has a service that allows people to have an updated wish list, also known as Froogle.
You can have items that you want so that other people can see. So now you know. If you want to give me something just go to this site (I’ll also put in the sidebar :) ).

Last Friday something unexpected happened. Around 4p.m. I got a call from my mother. She informed me that we no longer had a basement. We now had a swimming pool.
You can say that it was understandable looking at the immense storm outside the office walls. I got out work and even had some difficulty getting home. The problem was a 50cm deep swimming pool in the avenue I normally take to get home.
When I got there I saw a watered basement. Fortunately the water was lowering and I had to stay, with my parents, cleaning the water for several hours.
Worst of all was my computer and home cinema that had a close encounter with the invading water. Nevertheless, and thanks to the dehumidifiers of Tiago and Cristina, the only thing that was not operational was the printer ac transformer.
I even took some photos. But my card reader is my printer, so until it’s operational again I can’t show you the spectacle, yet.
Oh and a special thanks to Tiago, Cristina, Sílvia and Ché Manel for showing up. Even though it was a little late. ;)

Regoufe

This Saturday I went to another no mans land. This time to Regoufe, that’s “near” Arouca. The reason was another trekking day, which had the presence of my waterproof case.

The road to get there was somewhat complicated, due to the state’s money being solely spent in roundabouts. Therefore there was not enough money for signals. Even so we manage to get there. The path was from Regoufe to the abandoned village of Drave.
On our way we even crossed paths with another group (though they were really ill equipped). There was even a man that in is wise posture said I was measuring the quality of the water (while I was taking underwater photos). City folks for sure! But here are some photos for you to see. And more will show up in my MSN Blog.

Wii for All

Some people might already know. Even so I’ll leave the warning that soon the new Nintendo console is coming out. And unlike the others that are being released this one will have more interaction between the games. And so that you see what I mean watch this video.

Vidente / Fortune Teller

Há coisas fantásticas não há?
Bem hoje vi algo que me despertou a curiosidade e posteriormente permitiu-me dar umas valentes gargalhadas.

There are some fantastic things aren’t there?
Well, today I saw something that caught my attention. And allowed me to laugh a lot.
I saw this paper on a windshield as you can se in the image.

Well because it’s not in English it might be difficult to understand. But its an advertisement to a fortune teller.

P.S. – And worst of all is that there are people that spend money on these things.

Portanto fica aqui o apelo.

Technologies advances have been many. We go to space, contact any part of the world in an instant. And we even do lots of discoveries in health. Well my thoughts go to that particular area. We’ve cured lots of diseases, and as I even saw the other day, we even managed to come up with a vaccine to prevent some types of cancer. Well, in the middle of so many discoveries has no one remembered to invent a cure for the flu? Every year is the same thing. Cold weather starts coming, the body is tired and there it is. We go to bed because the so called virus is not forgiving. Even the vaccine that we have today is not that effective, and you have to take it every year.
So my request is this. Scientists, quit working on the seedless watermelon... invest your time in coming up with a vaccine for the flu. One that you take once and that’s it!
But these are only the thoughts of someone with the flu.

Nivea

There are those inventions that change our history. There are those that speak of fire, the wheel, medical breakthroughs, computers...
In my case I’ll mention something else. Nivea cream! For those that don’t know, the cream already has some decades of histories and it’s still important.
It has several uses. It’s not just to use in your face. It’s also good to soften shoes, as hair gel...and other things.
In m case it’s for something more practical. To keep my feet hydrated.
And why’s that?
Because Kendo is not as gentle on the feet as one might think. The result? Feet are dry, the derma separates from the epidermis and the famous bubbles appear. In my case, and due to the violence of the situation they have blood in them.
So hurray for the cream and let’s go forward.

25km

E isto sempre a trepar.

Isto passa...

Yesterday I did with my brother a real quest. We left Porto before 8:00A.M. And for a holyday you can say that’s waking up too soon. But why do that? We went for a stroll. The idea was to follow the roman road.
We stopped the car in “Campo do Gerês” and the destination was 10km away. Of course as that wasn’t enough we made some detours to visit some other places. And all of this going uphill. The day was good, not too warm or too cold. Good weather for walking. The stroll started at 10:30A.M. and finished around 5:45P.M. Only with 2 breaks of 10min to eat some ham sandwich. We even manage to go to Spain!

We saw some beautiful places and it was a better walk than we thought.. The worst of all was the mileage that we made, and worse of that we also had to come back the way we came. In the end it was 7 hours doing 25km through the woods and side roads. By the end of the day we had our feet cooked, ready to be served. As soon as we got home we were in heaven.
Now, the next day, we look like old people with arthritis. This will pass...

Contracto / Contract

After a year working at PT (Portugal Telecom), they finally told me something. It seams I’ll be here working for the next 15 months. This is, until the end of 2007. After all they’ll pay me well and I’ll have some very interesting benefits. :D
But because this doesn’t mean I’ll have less work I’ll go back to it.

Musculos / Muscles

Last Friday, and because I was already back in Porto, I went to workout. The first one after the vacation period. At first I thought that the training would be calmer. My master even told us that we would be doing some flexibility training. But I was quite wrong. That was only the tip of the iceberg. Soon enough we were doing exercises to regain shape and stamina. I won’t get into details. Let’s just say that in the end I was sweating like a pig due to the enormous amount of squatting and so on. The activity peak was so great that my blood, thinking to be very smart, thought that it wasn’t needed in my brain. Hurray for my self-control. Otherwise we would have the sad spectacle of fainting in the end of the training.
How wrong was I when in the end of the workout I thought: Ah, now a bath and I’ll be good as new!
Well my muscles, used to a one and a half months of doing little, were quick to complaint of the work conditions. Let’s just say that I’m all busted up to the point of walking being a painful activity.
Where the heck is the Ozonol?

Férias? / Vacations?

É verdade, batam-me, chamem-me nomes eu compreendo.

It’s true. Hit me, call me name, I understand. I’ve been considerably neglecting what I write here. Even so, allied to my laziness, I had the fact of being on vacation with my parents. A fact that contributed to my absence from this corner of the internet.
To try to resume what happened this last week I was on the north of Portugal resting with my family. We were in some nice queit places (sometimes too quiet). I managed to rest...somewhat. Even so I think I needed more. More and more I miss the times that I had 2 months of vacations while studying.
I would even get to the point of getting tired of resting. Now there’s nothing like that. As soon as you start getting relaxed...a slap on the cheek and off to work again.
And when we were kids we didn’t understand the grownups saying:... Argh! Those were the days!
Now I see that soon enough someone is going to start treating me as “old man”.
Regarding the vacations, there’s not much to say. The days were spent sleeping, eating and walking. I think the peek on my brain activity was choosing what towel to use.
But now the worries are others and the posture is another.

Fados em Viseu / Fados in Viseu

Even though I’ve been giving some slack to what I post here, I decided it was time to post again to keep up to date what’s been going on.
Last August 16th I went to Viseu to the Saint Vincent parties. But I didn’t just to see what was going on. I went to perform with the Fados group. The trip was faster than what I thought. And the day was very pleasant. We got together and had a great dinner and eventually there we went to the stage to show what we had to give.
After that there was still time to drink some beers. But as the night got very cold very fast and as the next day was a work day we returned home. In the MSN blog there are more photos for those of you that are curious.

Last Monday. Just finishing arriving from vacations, I had a pleasant evening thanks to the presence of my friends. The plan was to watch a film at my place. But after some apple pies and some talking we ended up going to the cinema to watch Superman.
Fortunately Tuesday was a holyday.
